Akagum is a money guide: you tell it what you have, owe and want, and it helps you see it clearly. This policy explains exactly what information Akagum handles, why, who else touches it, and how you can remove it.
The short version. We collect only what you enter, import, scan or choose to connect. If you ask for a money report, we build it from your own data and email it to your account address. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use advertising or analytics trackers in the app. Akagum is read-only: it can't move your money, and we never ask for your bank login. If you use Akagum's AI features, we ask your permission first, and the text or document involved is then sent securely to our AI service provider to produce the answer (named in section 4). You can export your transactions or delete your whole account from inside the app at any time.
Akagum is operated by Anoki & Co Limited ("we", "us"), based in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: privacy@getakagum.com.
| What | Details | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Name, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form), optional profile photo, optional two-factor secret | You |
| Profile and preferences | Employment type, income currency and range label, your goal, region, home currency, display and personality settings, notification settings | You |
| Money information | Accounts (name, type, currency, balance), transactions (date, description, category, amount, including categories you create yourself and whether you marked a transaction as money moved between your own accounts), the name of each statement file you import, goals, subscriptions, income sources, bills you owe, money owed to you, savings circles | You, by typing it in, importing a CSV or statement, or scanning a bill; and, if you choose to connect a bank (section 5), the account name, type, currency and balance your bank shares |
| Money reports | When you ask for a report, we calculate it from the accounts and transactions already in your Akagum, as a PDF. It contains your totals, charts, fees, income sources, categories and largest transactions. We do not keep a copy of the PDF | Your own data, on your request |
| Ask Akagum | The questions you type and the replies you receive | You and the app |
| Photos and documents | A photo or PDF of a bill or bank statement, only when you choose to scan or import one. The camera or photo library is opened only when you tap the scan button | You |

| Waitlist | Your email address if you joined the waitlist on our website | You |
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, microphone recordings, advertising ID or browsing history. We do not ask for or store your online-banking username or password.
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and where else applicable, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you, your consent (for example for AI processing, the camera, push notifications and the waitlist), our legitimate interest in security and reliability, and legal obligation.
When you ask Ask Akagum something that needs a written answer, or scan a bill or import a statement, we send the necessary content to Anthropic (Claude API, United States) to produce the result. For a question this is your message, a short snapshot of your account names, currencies and balances, goal names and amounts and active subscription names and costs, and your chosen personality settings. For a scan or import it is the image or PDF you chose. We do not send your password, email address or name. We have not opted in to any use of this content for training AI models. Scanned images and statements are not kept by us after the data has been extracted. We do keep the transactions read from a statement, and the statement's file name (encrypted), so that you can see and remove each import. Money reports are calculated by our own server from the data already in your account. No AI service is used for them and nothing extra is sent to Anthropic.
Your permission. Before you first use Ask Akagum, bill or receipt scanning, or statement import, the app tells you this and asks for your agreement. If you decline, those features stay off and the rest of Akagum keeps working. You can turn AI processing off or on again at any time in Profile → AI processing, and withdrawing it does not affect anything done before. Anthropic acts as our service provider for this and its own privacy policy applies to what it does as a provider. The answers are generated by AI, can be wrong, and are not financial, legal or tax advice.
Other service providers that handle data on our behalf:
| Provider | Purpose | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Bank-connection provider for your region (for example Mono in Nigeria) | Optional read-only bank connection. Coming soon, provider depends on your region (section 5) | Depends on your region |
| Fly.io | Hosts our servers and database | Amsterdam, Netherlands |
| Netlify | Hosts the web app and website | Global edge network |
| Anthropic | AI processing described above | United States |
| Resend | Sends account emails (verification, password reset) and the money reports you ask us to email you, including the PDF attached to the message | United States |
| Google / browser push services | Delivers push notifications to your device | Global |
Our server also fetches public exchange-rate data (from open.er-api.com and a public currency dataset on jsDelivr). Those requests contain no personal information.
We do not sell personal data, rent it, or share it with advertisers or data brokers. We disclose it to authorities only where the law requires.
Connecting a bank account is coming soon and is not available in Akagum yet. Everything in Akagum works today by typing accounts in or importing a statement.
When bank connection becomes available, we will tell you in the app or by email, and the provider used will depend on your region. For example, a provider such as Mono for Nigerian banks, and a different regulated provider for banks in other regions. We will name the provider on the screen where you connect, and we will update this policy before it is switched on.
Any bank connection will be optional and read-only. You will sign in on your bank's or the provider's own secure screen, and Akagum will never see or store your online-banking username or password. It will not be able to move money or make payments, and you will be able to remove a connected account at any time.
Your data is stored in the Netherlands and processed by providers in the United States and elsewhere. We transfer it only to providers bound by confidentiality and data-protection commitments, and only what is needed for the service.
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Sensitive text fields in our database, such as names, transaction descriptions, messages and notification text, are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, and the key is stored separately from the data. Passwords are salted and hashed. You can switch on two-factor sign-in and review or revoke your signed-in devices. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
A money report is created when you ask for it and sent only to your account email address. We do not store the PDF. Once it is sent, copies exist in your own mailbox and with our email provider while it delivers the message. You are responsible for who can read that mailbox. We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, all of it is removed from our live database immediately. Encrypted backups made before that may take up to 90 days to expire. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them or the waitlist closes.
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your data, object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to a regulator. In the app: Profile → Export my data downloads your transactions; Profile → Delete my account permanently deletes your account and everything in it. Or email privacy@getakagum.com from your account email. See how to delete your account. We reply within 30 days. In Nigeria you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission; in the UK or EU, to your local data-protection authority.
The getakagum.com website and the web app do not use advertising or analytics cookies or trackers. They load fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address. The app stores your sign-in token on your device so you stay signed in.
Akagum is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child has used Akagum, email us and we will delete the account.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
